Created by acclaimed garden designer and writer, Marylyn Abbott and situated in picturesque North Hampshire, it is one of England’s finest manor house gardens, marrying traditional style with contemporary design. It is also home to the West Green House Opera Season which this year takes place between July 23rd and 31st. Our next events…
Autumn celebrations… Apple weekend; Hallowe’en; and a pop-up Supper Club!
One of the joys of Autumn is the apple harvest and we have plenty of trees simply groaning with fruit.
To celebrate the season we’re delighted to bring you our second Apple Weekend, on October 8th and 9th.
We’ll have apple bobbing, mulled cider and toffee apples galore, plus sausage baps with apple sauce and scrumptious apple cake.
On Saturday we have special guests, Chris Bird and students from Sparsholt College, Winchester who will advise on apple identification, and how to prune and grow English heritage apples.
They are also bringing a display of historic apples for the whole weekend, some of which will also be available to taste. Many of the apples in the collection at Sparsholt originate from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, e.g. Bramshott Rectory, Howgate Wonder and Sir John Thornycroft.
Our final event of the garden season is our family Hallowe’en day on Sunday, October 30th. There are Hallowe’en treats, ghostly cakes, biscuits and spiced cider to sample.
There’s a free bag of apples for each family at both events, whilst stocks last.
Everything will be in our heated greenhouse, so the fun takes place whatever the weather.
Our chef has devised a mouthwatering menu…
Cauliflower velout’e with Welsh rarebit
Pan fried fillet stone bass
Wilted spinach caper and dill beurre blanc
Oven roasted breast of Gressingham duck,
Dauphinois potatoes, Roasted root
vegetables, Red wine jus
Apple and blackberry oat crumble
Cheeses from the British Isles
Crackers and chutney
See our Events Page for more information on these and our other forthcoming events.
