Tuesday February 28th
11am to 3pm
Nothing heralds the start of Spring like the delicate and beautiful Snowdrop.
Marlyn has investigated why the wonderful display in front of West Green House has declined in recent years. Her initial thoughts were disease or poor soil, but it turns out the demise of her snowdrops is that terror of many a bulb loving gardener, the squirrel.
As a result the garden team will be planting thousands of new snowdrop slips by hand later this year. To mark the occasion, Marylyn has invited the renowned snowdrop specialist Min Wood as guest speaker at our inaugural Snowdrop Lunch.
This promises to be a treat for all galanthophiles and also offers a sneak preview of the garden ahead of opening for the season the next day.
The event comprises:
11am - Coffee
11.15 - Talk on the snowdrop and their fascinating history by Min Woods
We will also walk around the gardens to show how we are rejuvenating the snowdrops and discuss their cultivation and care.
Followed by a two course lunch including wine:
Tandoori Chicken Breast with minted yoghurt dressing , seasonal salad and hot new potatoes
Fruit Tart and vanilla ice cream
OR for vegetarians (which must be pre ordered)
Red Onion, Butternut Squash and Feta tart, seasonal salad and hot new potatoes.
The talk and lunch will be held in the warm Tea Room.
